Fixed in Version 5.8.1 (2024-08-06)
This is a minor bug fix release.
- Fix a problem where the software would lock up displaying some records from ClinicalTrials.gov
- Add a few field label variations for Beacon drug exports; adds a publisher URL to rows.
Introducing Version 5.8 (2024-06-19)
We are pleased to introduce Version 5.8 of the BizInt Smart Charts Drug Development Suite.
- ClinicalTrials.gov: Adds support for the JSON exports from the latest generation of ClinicalTrials.gov. This release (or later) will be required if you create reports from ClinicalTrials.gov after June 25, 2024, as NIH has announced the retirement of the classic system on that date.
- Normalized Trial Phase: There is now a Phase (Normalized) column available in all supported clinical trial databases, similar to the normalized phases available in drug pipeline databases.
- New chart creation workflow: You will no longer be asked for chart template during chart creation. By default, a standard "Editor's Choice" chart template is applied to all new charts during import. There is a default template for each chart type: Clinical Trials; Drug Pipelines; and Biomedical Literature.
- A new Manage Templates command (on the File menu) can be used to delete templates, rename templates, or set a template as the default for new charts.
- Learn about all of these changes on our Using Chart Templates support page.
- Reference Rows: Fixes an issue with row numbering when a chart with hidden rows is sent to Reference Rows.
New and Fixed in Version 5.7.4 (2024-06-10)
Does your IT department take a long time to approve and install software? We recommend that you wait for the 5.8 release on 19 June,
with additional testing and features.
- ClinicalTrials.gov: Adds support for the JSON exports from the latest generation of ClinicalTrials.gov. This release or Version 5.8 will be required if you create reports from ClinicalTrials.gov after June 25, 2024, as NIH has announced the retirement of the classic system on that date.
- Exports: Options for Excel exports are now saved. The Chart Only export from Reference Rows now works correctly for Word and HTML exports.
- Reference Rows: Fixed a crash when trying to Apply Rules Template.
New and Fixed in Version 5.7.3 (2024-03-05)
This release offers a first look at enhancements to chart creation workflow and chart template capabilities in BizInt Smart Charts.
- Chart templates can be used for any chart with the same type of data, regardless of the chart the template was saved from. For example, a chart template created with Pharmaprojects can be applied to a chart created from Cortellis.
- Chart templates are now available in Reference Rows.
- Most of the old chart templates provided by BizInt are now hidden. You can see them by checking the "Show classic templates" box at the bottom of the dialog. If you find one of these templates to be exactly like you want, we suggest that you apply it to a chart and Save as template... with your own name.
- Cortellis: fixed a problem with loading EPhMRA codes in drug records.
New and Fixed in Version 5.7.2 (2024-02-20)
This was an early release of chart template improvements that are available in a more finished form in Version 5.7.3.
New and Fixed in Version 5.7.1 (2023-07-11)
We've made Word export enhancements based on user feedback:
- You can change column widths in exported Word tables.
- New option for Word exports to "auto-fit to width". This will help fit your columns on the page, but columns will only be made as small as the largest word.
- Use File | Page Setup to specify chart orientation, paper size, and margins. By default, charts are in Landscape. Records are always in Portrait mode.
Introducing Version 5.7 (2023-05-29)
We are pleased to introduce version 5.7 featuring a major overhaul of our exports.
- Exports to Word, Excel, and HTML: A major refresh of our exports is included in this release. We have introduced new styles and updated the old styles. Reference Rows exports now use the same styles as BizInt Smart Charts. You have a choice of style for every export, including Excel Optimized and Summary Records. We have fixed many display glitches, removed a few options that no longer made sense, and introduced a few new options, including:
- Option to include (or omit) the chart title in the export;
- Options for how cell sources are displayed in Reference Rows export.
- You can learn more from this support page.
- Sorting Development Phases: A new "Phase Sort options" item on the Options menu lets you control how inactive development phases sort. By default, inactive phases (Discontinued, Suspended, Withdrawn) sort before Preclinical. You can now select an option to have inactive phases sort after Launched.
- Ovid: Added more segment labels for Medline. DOI is extracted from the Article Identifiers field.
Introducing Version 5.6 (2023-02-15)
- Delete user and VP-SCE columns: A new Edit | Delete User Column command allows you to delete columns added by the user or by VP-SCE. These columns will be permanently removed, saving disk space, memory, and de-cluttering the Choose Column List. You can select and delete multiple user or VP-SCE columns. Only user or VP-SCE columns can be deleted; if you select a range of columns that contain publisher columns, only the user or VP-SCE columns will be deleted. You cannot undo column deletion, so we recommend using Save As... to save the original or new chart file with a different name.
- Hide Multiple Columns: The Edit | Hide Column command now allows you to select and hide multiple columns. Only adjacent columns can be selected to hide. You can undo hiding columns or go to the Choose Columns panel to redisplay hidden columns.
- Citeline Pharmaprojects: Adds country details to the Drug Development Phase column, and adds a new Filtered Drug Development Phase column based on your query.
- TrialTrove: Adds support for new fields such as Drug Targets, Oncology Biomarkers, Endpoint Keywords, and Patient Age Groups.
Introducing Version 5.5 (2022-04-04)
- Preview Reference Rows: Click the Preview button (at right top of Reference Rows document window) to open a preview HTML export in your browser, so you can quickly review the effects of rules and selections.
- Easier workflow for exports and statistics: You can now create exports and open statistics in Excel without having to specify a file name. Click the Open button to launch the file immediately, or Save to choose a file name.
- Export to Word - Chart and Records: Tables in the records are more condensed (less wasted space)
- Biomedical databases on STN: Support for the new STNext BizInt export. Search term highlighting in BizInt records (not tables) is supported when using this export.
- Ovid: Support for Author Keywords in MEDLINE.
New and Fixed in Version 5.4.1 (2022-03-11)
- Literature: New Author Affiliation column, with a subtable showing each author and affiliation, currently created from Embase, Medline, and Biosis on ProQuest Dialog. Also added Supplemental Terms in Medline and Embase on STN.
- ClinicalTrials.gov: Added support for Other Outcomes.
- Cortellis: Fixed a formatting problem with certain WO patent numbers.
- Summary Records: Width of Summary Records output is now 100% of
space between the margins set in Word. Fixed a glitch in how blank
cells were formatted.

We are pleased to announce version 5.4 of the BizInt Smart Charts Drug Development Suite, introducing a simplified Reference Rows workflow and the ability to hide Reference Rows, as well as a few other improvements.
Reference Rows
- New workflow: Send to Reference Rows command now sends a chart from BizInt Smart Charts directly to Reference Rows, without having to save the chart or go through a wizard.
- Hide Reference Rows: a new Hide Reference Rows command is available on the right-mouse menu. You can also hide and move Reference Rows, and make them visible again, with the new View | Reference Rows panel.
- Common Drug Name and Common Trial ID columns are now automatically generated when you combine charts, or when you send a combined chart to Reference Rows.

- Updated Mini Guide for BizInt Smart Charts Drug Development Suite 5.4.
New in Version 5.3.1 (2021-05-03)
