Data Execution Prevention

The Problem

BizInt Smart Charts products may crash when launched without any error report. This is due to a core library in the software which is not Windows 7 compliant.

Affected Operating Systems

This problem appears on .NET based versions of Windows, including:

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Server 2008

A similar problem has been reported in Citrix installations on Windows Server 2003.

How to Disable Data Execution Prevention

An explicit exception must be granted to the application executable from the Data Execution Prevention rule.

You must have Administrator privileges in order to make this change.

 

To configure DEP settings

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

  2. Click the Advanced tab. Then, under Performance, click Settings.

  3. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.

  4. Click the Add... button and select the application that you do not want to use DEP with from the list of applications below. (Note - if the Add... button is not enabled, and
