The new installation process demonstrates many of the changes in Version 3.4. Below are screen captures from the BizInt Smart Charts for Drug Pipelines version 3.4 installation, together with a discussion of the changes and what they mean. With one exception, which will be noted, the discussion also applies to BizInt Smart Charts for Patents.
The first change that you'll notice with Version 3.4 is that the installation software has been code-signed. You can see right away that the setup program is from BizInt Solutions Inc.
The reason this is helpful is that your computer can be set up to trust files from a verified publisher. In some companies, you will not need IT support in order to install Version 3.4.
The second change you will notice is the directory in which the software is installed. Previous versions of BizInt Smart Charts would install in c:\bizint but this practice isn't favored by more recent versions of Windows.
We now install into the appropriate Program Files directory.
If you have custom templates saved in an old installation directory, these will be copied to the new location by the setup program.
BizInt Smart Charts will register several file types during installation. These are described in the table below.
Drug Pipelines | Patents | |
---|---|---|
Chart Files | CHT | CHP |
Import Files | BRD | BPD |
In addition, BizInt Smart Charts for Drug Pipelines can handle files created by BizInt Web Charts products. During setup, you have the option to take over the import file formats for AdisInsight and for Citeline's TrialTrove and Pipeline products.
If you choose to take over ARD file handling, when you export to Charts in AdisInsight, BizInt Smart Charts for Drug Pipelines will open the file instead of BizInt Web Charts for AdisInsight.
Likewise, if you choose to take over TTCD file handling, Exports from Citeline TrialTrove and Citeline Pipeline will open in BizInt Smart Charts instead of BizInt Web Charts - Citeline Edition.
Note that you only need to make this selection one time. The associations will be installed and will remain through future updates.
If you want to use BizInt Web Charts in the future for these files, simply re-install the appropriate BizInt Web Charts product.
The installation for version 3.4 will always install a shortcut on the Start menu.
You also have a choice to install two additional shortcuts.
These shortcuts need be installed only once. Updates to the software will not remove them.
The Desktop shortcut is simply an icon on your Windows desktop to launch the application.
The Send To... shortcut is a little less common. When you are viewing files in Windows Explorer, press the right mouse button and you will see a menu of options, one of which is "Send To". The entries on this sub-menu are short cuts for sending the file to a program.
Since BizInt Smart Charts can import data in many file formats which belong to other applications (such as TXT, RTF, TRN, CSV, etc) , we give you the option to add a shortcut on the Send To menu. This way you can directly import a file, such as the ZIP file shown above, into BizInt Smart Charts.
